The Labyrinth - a Path of Interbeing

Updated: Jun 30, 2020

Our Labyrinth at Green Mountain Monastery is based on a seven circuit model. It is a path to walk, an ongoing journey into and out of the centre of life. An inner journey, an outer journey. As we walk around the Labyrinth, we understand that life's journey is not linear, it is a meandering path. We can stop and look around; see different views from different places; trees; mountains; skies; stones; bushes; maybe a bear or a bob cat; birds; insects; mini beasts; mosses; clouds and more. While we are walking our path, we know we never totally alone.

There is a cosmic dimension to the design, it draws on the mystical quality of the number 7, a number of transformation and vision. In medieval times, the seven circuits were seen to correspond to the seven visible planets, and a walk in the labyrinth was a cosmic journey through the heavens.
